Cardless cash withdrawal can be useful when a bank card is missing, damaged or unavailable, but the process depends on the bank and terminal. This guide explains how to start from an official bank app, USSD menu or internet-banking channel, create a one-time withdrawal token, choose a supported ATM, enter the requested reference and collect cash only after checking the

Open your bank’s official app or verified USSD menu, choose Cardless Withdrawal, Paycode, Cash Token, Fast Track Withdrawal or Reserve Cash, and follow the exact prompt shown.

Generate the withdrawal before going to the ATM

Need Code or route What it does
GTBank customer *737# or GTWorld Choose the current cardless/Fast Track withdrawal route
Fidelity customer *770# or Fidelity app Open Cardless Withdrawal from the live menu
FirstBank customer *894# or FirstMobile Look for Reserve Cash or the current cardless option
Another Nigerian bank Official app / main USSD menu Confirm that the bank and ATM support cardless cash

Do this in order

  1. Choose the amount and the account to debit inside the bank-controlled channel.
  2. Create the temporary token, paycode or withdrawal reference and note its expiry time.
  3. Go to an ATM supported by that bank or service; the app or menu should identify where it works.
  4. On the ATM welcome screen, select Cardless Withdrawal, Paycode, Cash Token or the matching service label.
  5. Enter the token and any phone number, amount, OTP or verification detail requested on the ATM screen.
  6. Collect the cash and receipt, then check the account history before leaving.

Expected result

A successful request creates a temporary reference. The ATM validates it, dispenses the exact approved amount and the account history records the withdrawal. A generated code alone is not proof that cash was dispensed.

When that route fails

Cancel or let the token expire, then use a branch, trusted bank agent or a normal card withdrawal. If the account is debited without cash, keep the ATM location, time, amount and reference and report it to the bank immediately.

Quick answer

Cardless withdrawal is not one universal Nigerian code. It is a bank feature. Generate a temporary withdrawal reference in your own bank app or verified USSD menu, use the matching cardless option on a supported ATM and never share the reference or OTP with someone offering to collect the cash for you.

What cardless withdrawal actually creates

The bank does not turn a phone into a physical card. It creates a short-lived instruction that permits one cash withdrawal under stated conditions. Banks use different names, including paycode, cash token, reserve cash and Fast Track withdrawal. The reference may be tied to an amount, phone number, account and expiry period.

Because the code can release cash, treat it like a PIN. Do not send a screenshot of the token, read it to a stranger at the ATM or let an agent type it while watching your OTP. If another person is meant to collect the money, use only a bank feature designed for a third-party recipient and make sure you trust that person.

Phone steps and ATM steps are two different stages

Stage one happens inside the bank channel: select the service, amount and account, then authenticate. Stage two happens at the ATM: select the matching cardless service and enter the temporary details. If the ATM does not show the service name, do not keep trying unrelated options. Confirm the supported ATM network in the app or with official support.

Read every ATM message. A token may be valid only once, may expire quickly or may be limited to a bank’s own terminals. Entering the wrong amount or phone number can cause rejection. Repeated failed attempts may lock the reference, so check the original instruction before creating a second one.

How to choose a safe ATM

Use a machine at a bank branch or a busy, well-lit location where the bank name and support details are visible. Check the card slot and keypad area even though no card is being inserted; fraud at an ATM can involve observation, fake help or tampered equipment as well as card skimming. Shield the keypad when entering any secret.

Do not accept an offer from someone who says the cardless menu is hidden and asks to operate the screen for you. Cancel when people crowd the machine or when the ATM behaves unusually. The bank’s official app, website or contact centre is the place to confirm whether a terminal supports the service.

Debited without cash: document before retrying

If the ATM shows an error or dispenses no cash, check whether the account was actually debited. Photograph the ATM identification label and note the bank, location, date, time, amount, error message and token reference. Do not photograph or share an active OTP or PIN. Keep any receipt even when it says failed.

Open a complaint with the bank that holds the account. Give one clear account of what happened and request a ticket number. Avoid generating another token for the same urgent need until the first debit status is clear. For unresolved complaints, follow the bank’s escalation process and then the regulator route described in our failed-payment guide.

When another route is better

Cardless cash is useful when a card is forgotten, damaged or temporarily unavailable. It is not the best response when a phone or account may be compromised. In that situation, block the SIM and banking channels first. Generating a cash token from a suspicious device can make the loss worse.

A branch is more suitable for an account restriction, identity mismatch or large cash need. A transfer to a trusted recipient may be easier when the recipient can confirm credit, but verify the account name before sending. Use a licensed agent only through the provider’s normal process and collect a receipt.

Cardless-withdrawal situations

The following examples explain cardless-withdrawal situations and show how the guidance applies in different situations.

1. You forgot the card at home

Generate a code in the official app while standing somewhere private, confirm the supported ATM and use the token yourself. The reference solves the missing-card problem without exposing the normal card PIN.

2. A relative needs emergency cash

Use a bank feature that explicitly supports recipient collection. Enter the relative’s correct phone number, explain the expiry time privately and never post the token in a group chat.

3. The ATM debits but remains silent

Do not walk away without recording the terminal and time. Check history, keep the reference and open one bank complaint. The ATM owner and account bank may need to reconcile the transaction.

Official sources for this guide

The guide uses current official bank pages that identify the underlying USSD channels and cardless services.

Use the token once, then verify the account

Generate the reference inside the official bank channel, use the corresponding option on a supported ATM and keep every secret private. After cash is dispensed, confirm the debit in the account history. After a failure, preserve evidence before trying a new withdrawal.

Compare bank entry codes in the bank USSD directory and review stolen-phone protection steps before using any cash feature on a compromised device.
