A responsible guide to eligibility, service fees, repayment deductions and borrowing for another line.

Borrowed airtime or data is an advance, not a free bonus. The provider normally deducts the amount and applicable service cost from a later recharge. Eligibility, available denominations and repayment terms belong to the line and can change over time.

Use the network’s current borrow menu or official self-care app. Read the amount the recipient receives, the total obligation and what will happen to the next recharge before pressing Confirm.

Start with the live offer

A line may qualify based on factors the provider controls, such as activity and recharge history. Another person’s eligibility does not prove that your SIM will receive the same offer. Avoid websites that request a SIM registration image to “activate” borrowing.

Three figures to write down

  • Requested value: the airtime or data amount selected.
  • Amount delivered: what the provider says will reach the line.
  • Repayment: what will be deducted later, including any disclosed service charge.

If the screen does not make those figures clear, leave the session and check the provider’s official app or customer care. Do not approve an unknown recurring service just because it appears beside the borrow option.

Borrowing for someone else

Glo publishes a Borrow for Others service under which an eligible subscriber can request airtime or data for friends and family and repay it from a later recharge. Confirm the beneficiary number carefully because the obligation remains with the borrowing line even though another person receives the value.

How repayment affects the next recharge

A future recharge may first clear the outstanding advance, leaving less usable airtime than the voucher or electronic top-up amount. Check the balance and repayment message before concluding that the recharge disappeared. Keep both the borrowing confirmation and the later deduction notice.

When borrowing is not suitable

Do not borrow repeatedly when the next recharge is intended for an essential call, security alert or data purchase and the repayment would consume it. A normal paid bundle may be clearer when you can fund it. Never borrow because an unknown caller claims it is required to restore a SIM.

If the deduction looks wrong

Compare the original borrow confirmation with the recharge and deduction messages. Report one timeline to the network, including the line, date, amount and reference that is safe to share. Exclude OTPs, banking PINs and unrelated account information.

Keep borrowing separate from ordinary recharge

Before accepting, consider whether the next recharge has already been budgeted for calls, data or an emergency. Repayment can reduce the usable balance immediately. Someone borrowing for another person should agree privately on who will bear the cost, because the provider will still collect from the qualifying line.

Keep a small record containing the offer, delivered value and later deduction. If several advances exist, ask the network to explain their order rather than assuming that a single recharge clears every obligation.
